KUALA LUMPUR, 7 Dis (Bernama) -- Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi (KPT) telah melanjutkan tempoh moratorium atau pembekuan penubuhan institusi pengajian tinggi swasta (IPTS) baharu sehingga 31 Dis 2020.

Timbalan Menterinya Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching berkata, pelaksanaan moratorium IPTS itu bertujuan melestarikan perkhidmatannya terutama dari segi kewangan dan juga penstrukturan semula pengurusan pendidikan swasta di negara ini.

"Bilangan IPTS yang diberi kelulusan beroperasi sebenarnya telah berkurangan apabila sehingga Nov lepas (terdapat) sebanyak 486 IPTS berbanding 522 IPTS pada 2013.

"Langkah ini bertujuan memastikan hanya IPTS berkualiti dan berdaya maju terus dibenarkan beroperasi," katanya menjawab soalan Senator Datuk Seri Khairudin Samad pada sesi soal jawab persidangan Dewan Negara hari ini.

Beliau ingin tahu sama ada kerajaan mengawal kelulusan penubuhan IPTS yang banyak ketika ini dan beliau dakwa ada kalanya kursus ditawarkan sekadar mengaut keuntungan.

Mary Yap berkata tempoh sah laku kursus pengajian hanya diberi selama lima tahun dan tujuh tahun sahaja bergantung kepada program yang ditawarkan bagi memastikan kursus yang ditawarkan relevan dengan pasaran semasa.

Katanya peraturan kelulusan kursus pengajian itu selaras dengan pindaan Akta 55 (Pindaan 2017) yang telah berkuatkuasa pada 28 Nov lalu.

"Oleh itu sekiranya sesuatu program tidak mematuhi syarat ditetapkan, KPT tidak akan memperbaharui tempoh pengendalian sesuatu program atau kelulusan kursus pengajian itu ditarik balik, " katanya.
