KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- The stark financial reality of every Malaysian is that more than half of Malaysian households have no financial assets.

One in three Malaysians do not have a savings account. 90 percent of rural households and 86 percent of urban households have zero savings. 57 percent of non-Malay Bumiputra, 55 percent of Malays, 45 percent of Chinese and 44 percent of Indians have no financial assets. 68 percent of Malaysians have less than RM50,000 in their EPF savings but the longevity has increased tremendously to 75 years, today.

The above statistics paint a picture of poverty during old age for most Malaysians. Most of the Malaysians spend all the savings within five to 10 years after they withdraw their money at 55.
